Design a chic, cozy living space that delivers big on wow factor
The HGTV Urban Oasis® Giveaway 2022 will make one lucky winner the owner of a brand-new home in Music City, USA. Designed by Atlanta-based interior designer Brian Patrick Flynn, this year’s HGTV Urban Oasis is an eclectic, music-themed escape built in Nashville, Tennessee’s vibrant West End. While we’re over the moon for the home’s entire “mod meets Music Row” vibe, we were particularly inspired by Flynn’s take on the den—a space equal parts green room, family room and VIP lounge. Wow Factor Right When You Walk In
Located near the house’s entryway and adjacent to the dining room, the den is designed to invite and delight guests and residents alike. Inspired by the honky-tonks lining Nashville’s historic Broadway thoroughfare, the den packs a visual punch with trendy neon signage shouting out some of country music’s greatest stars. Designer Flynn drew inspiration both from Broadway’s new era of country artists and from an unexpected creative source — crayons. Burnt sienna is the room’s floor-to-ceiling paint color, and the monochromatic look both enlarges the den’s feel and contrasts the room’s colorful accent pieces for a vibrant optic pop. When working to create an aesthetic that feels both welcoming and Instaworthy, aim for monochromatic undertones you can easily offset with bright, or even glowing, statement pieces.
Light it Up from the Top Down
And speaking of statement pieces, light fixtures are another area where you can weave in some wow factor without breaking the bank. Drawing upon the Crayola theme, Flynn ditched the traditional chandelier, and even ceiling fan, family room fixtures for nine individual ceiling lights mounted in 3 x 3 rows—neat and tidy, just like crayons in a box. The nine Indigo Blue Cranbrook flush mount ceiling lights function as a top-down art installation rounding out the room’s bold and distinctive look. Designed by Hunter, proud sponsor of the HGTV Urban Oasis Giveaway 2022, the Cranbrook ceiling light lends itself to a one-of-a-kind look that’s both vintage and contemporary.
We asked Brian Patrick Flynn what drew him to the Cranbrook?
“I look to add that wow factor when you walk into a space. So, why not 9 of the same fixture in a room? I used the Cranbrook in multiple colors throughout the house, because they’re so transitional.”
