The living room is the hub of our homes. It should feel warm, cozy and inviting. Memories and traditions are often made in this room, and after a long day, there’s nothing better than kicking up your feet in a comfortable space. In our latest Huntervention™, Ashley Toney—interior designer and owner of First Fruit Collection—took a dull living area and transformed it into a welcoming space with a quick and simple makeover. For this living room, we wanted comfort to meet style. We hope these inexpensive and easy steps can help inspire your own Huntervention:
1. Warm things up
Neutral warm hues will make the entire room seem cozier, while still keeping the space feeling open and fresh. We chose Sherwin-Williams’ "Agreeable Gray” for this reason. Warm grays are also extremely versatile, so whatever your style—traditional, contemporary, or something completely different—these colors won’t clash with your furniture.
2. Find the perfect size
Choosing the right ceiling fan and light really enhances your room. The Crown Park traditional ceiling fan is the perfect grand statement piece. With large, decoratively carved wood blades, this fan demands attention. The simple, yet elegant design features an intricate three-light fixture that offers plenty of light, even for a big room. The right fan will keep the room feeling comfortable, while adding aesthetic interest at the same time.
Placing a rug on a wooden floor conveys a sense of dimension in your space. The woven texture of a jute rug complements the other warm neutral hues and helps make the room more inviting. Choosing the right size for your living room is crucial. We chose an 8 x 10 rug that was large enough to fit under the front legs of the sofa and chairs, giving the sitting area a more put-together look.
4. Finish strong
Last but certainly not least, add some finishing touches to your room. Make sure your patterns don’t compete with each other, but don’t be afraid to add some color. This is where you really make it your own. Have fun and it’ll add to the personality and coziness of your home.
